Women’s Studies Institute 2012-2013 Speakers Series

We are pleased to announce our 2012-2013 Speakers Series, the theme of which is “Progressive Cool, Inc.: The Commodification of Progressive Politics.”

Our next speaker, Mary Lou Rasmussen, Professor of Education, Monash University, will be presenting a talk entitled “Cool Secularism? Reframing ‘Progressive’ Sexuality Education” on Monday, 8 October 2012, at 4:30pm in the Troy Moore Library (939 General Classroom Building).  This talk is co-sponsored by Faces of Feminism and SPEAK.

Please also mark your calendars for two upcoming speakers this spring:

Molly Doane (University of Illinois, Chicago) will give a lecture entitled “From Cooperative Work to Work Cooperatives: Gender, Family, and Labor in the Fair Trade System” on 21 February 2013, at 4:30pm in the Troy Moore Library (939 General Classroom Building).  This talk is co-sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and the Center for Latin American and Latino/a Studies.

Roopali Mukherjee (Queens College, City University of New York) will deliver a talk entitled “Cadillac Consumer: Black Material Culture and the Care of the Racial Self” on 11 April 2013, at 4:30pm in the Troy Moore Library (939 Troy Moore Library).  This talk is co-sponsored by the Departments of African American Studies and Communication.
